Nevada
2-1-1 Celebrates
100,000th
Call
Las Vegas
(December 10, 2007) – As of July 2007,
Nevada
2-1-1 has answered the call by receiving more than 100,000 calls since its
launch February 9, 2006.
“
Nevada
2-1-1 has proven to be a very valuable resource for
Nevada
residents” said Mary Liveratti, Director of Nevada’s Department of Health
and Human Services. “During
trying times it is often difficult to know where to turn, 2-1-1 connects
people with the help they need.”
Nevada
2-1-1 is a statewide source for information and referrals for critical health
and human services and provides access to the following types of services:

Support for seniors and persons with disabilities
·
Basic human services
·
Physical and mental health resources
·
Employment support services
·
Programs for children, youth, families
·
Support for community crisis or disaster recovery
In
addition to those seeking help during this holiday season, many organizations
throughout southern
Nevada
are in need of volunteers or food donations.
Nevada
residents can dial 2-1-1 to help or volunteer, or go to nevada211.org and
click on GET HELP.
Service
is currently available to 99.5 percent of
Nevada
’s population from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight; and Saturday
and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding holidays).
Referrals are also available 24 hours a day at Nevada211.org.
Funded
by a grant from the State of Nevada, a 14-member coalition oversees Nevada
2-1-1 including AT&T Nevada; Crisis Call Center; Department of Health and
Human Services, Division for Aging Services; EMBARQ; Family Ties of Nevada;
HELP of Southern Nevada; Nevada Disability Advocacy and Law Center; Nevada
Public Health Foundation; Nevada Telecommunications Association; State of
Nevada Telecommunications; United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra;
United ay of Southern Nevada; Washoe Chronic Disease Coalition; and Washoe
County Senior Services.

is an easy-to-remember telephone number connects callers with important
community services and volunteer opportunities.
In July 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established
2-1-1 as the nationwide number for non-emergency information and referrals.
Currently, 2-1-1 is serving 65% of the
United States
population. Referrals are
available 24 hours a day at evada211.org
