There’s A
New Mobility Opportunity in the
Las Vegas Area By
Michael Alexander,
Director of Sales & Marketing
Have you ever seen a
wheelchair accessible van?
Did you know that people in
wheelchairs don’t need to be
uncomfortable in their chairs?
Do you know if your wheelchair
fits the lift on your vehicle?
Most people don’t know the answers to these questions, however the
staff at the Ability Center has known these answers for over 25
years.
Usually, the first call or visit to
the Ability Center is a fact-finding mission, one of education. The
staff at Ability Center has been trained to educate you regarding
mobility. They offer vans modified by several different vendors
encompassing the best quality and customer service available. Most
of the vans have remote entry so that a person in a wheelchair
approaching the van need only push a button on their key-chain to
open the door and deploy the ramp. Once inside, the push of a button
on the dashboard will bring the ramp inside or under the van and
close the door.
Installation is done on site for
many driver aids, such as transfer seats, hand controls, wheelchair
lockdowns, lifts, conversions and anything else that allows those
with specific needs to become independent and mobile.
The Ability Center also specializes
in wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, scooters and home care products.
They have a wheelchair staff of 7 full time employees (including an
Occupational Therapist) and 2 part time employees. The staff
evaluates it’s customers with any mobility need including high-end
rehabilitation power wheelchairs.
They are able to evaluate the
client and fit them with the proper equipment. Whether the need is
for a tilt and recline seating system, Head Array steering,
fiber-optic switch for steering without the use of their hands or
any other advanced need The Ability Center staff is trained to
serve you.
Ability Center works with several
area groups to assure that those in need have every resource
available to them. Driver evaluations are all apart of the
experience, so that they can ascertain just what additional
equipment will be necessary, if any.
The Ability Center can direct
Veterans’ to advocates who will help with negotiating through the
paperwork necessary to qualify for financial assistance. And they
work closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), assisting
with the paperwork flow, providing information necessary for
approvals of financial assistance.
Many Veterans qualify for an
initial one-time grant of up to $11,000 toward the vehicle and
additional assistance with the adaptive equipment, which is
renewable twice every four years.
Ability Center offers assistance
with financial grants for Veterans and guidance towards many
resources that are available to your specific needs. The staff
supports in the selection of the right vehicle with the right
equipment for your particular needs plus a warm and caring
environment in which to accomplish the purchase of your van.
After all, their slogan is
“Dedicated to Elevating the Quality of Life Through Increased
Mobility”
