Exploring Life Transitions
By Mark Simmons
Planning for financial security is
common these days, but who
ever really plans for aging and
for the "bumps in the road" as we age?
We take steps to try and slow the aging
process down, to stay as healthy as we
can but would you know where to turn
if a health crisis entered your life?
Would you know what services were
available? What steps you to take to
obtain them? How they would be paid
for?
These questions created Exploring
Life Transitions. The mission is to
empower individuals through education
and information on the many
options and services available to them
as they transition from one point in life
to another.
The concept was developed by
Mark Simmons from Willow Creek
Memory Care and Pamela Noonan
from Professional Healthcare Staffing,
when they noticed a growing number
of families dealing with crisis and not
knowing where to turn. They decided
they needed to take steps to help
educate the public by providing seminars
that talk about a wide range of
topics. The program can be modified
to provide information on just one or
two topics depending on the group's
needs.
To help meet the needs of the community,
Mark and Pam approached others
in the healthcare industry who share
their passion for educating and assisting
and caring for those going through
life transitions: Charlotte M. Leas from
Bunker's Mortuary was the first person
approached and her enthusiasm lead to
Cassandra Cotton from Nathan
Adelson Hospice and Elisabet Romero
from Nevada Center for Ethics &
Health Policy. Still something was
missing — the financial piece and
Denise Comastro from Senior Care
Solutions was asked to join the group.
The topics were chosen by compiling
research from people in the senior
care field on those things which
people have the least amount of knowledge
and understanding. The topics
they cover are Medicare and Medicaid
differences, the importance of Support
Services, Care and Living Options,
Hospice, Living Wills and proper planning
for funeral/cemetery.
Exploring Life Transitions
believes that knowledge is the key to
owning your future and no one should
be without a key.
