National Hospital Ranking Data Now Available

We live in an information society today. More and more, we can find the facts we need right at our fingertips. Now, with the click of a mouse, we can learn how local hospitals rank nationally on quality of care. A new resource from HealthInsight the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Nevada, offers instant, free, easy-to-use information about the quality of care in America's hospitals. It's information about how well hospitals care for people with certain medical conditions. It's information we can all use.

To access the new information resource, visit www.healthinsight.org and select National Hospital Ranking. The rankings are based on data reported by hospitals across the country to Medicare on three common conditions: heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. A single combined measure is then created based on those three conditions to rank the hospitals.

Making a decision for yourself or a loved one about hospital care can be difficult. All hospitals are committed to a high quality of care, but hospitals can vary in the quality of care they provide. HealthInsight understands this and encourages you to use the rankings as one resource to help you make healthcare decisions. You should also consult community resources, senior networks, and your doctor for information when choosing a hospital.

Sharing this data with consumers is only one part of the story. Hospitals around Nevada are working with HealthInsight to improve their quality of care. HealthInsight is under contract with Medicare to offer quality improvement assistance to hospitals and other healthcare providers. We help them improve their quality of care through on-site training, educational seminars and literature, and promoting best practices. We applaud our area hospitals that have voluntarily submitted quality data. Their efforts to publicly report quality data and improve their quality of care benefit everyone who needs, or may someday need, hospital care.

HealthInsight's hospital rankings will be updated periodically as the data reported to Medicare is refreshed. To view hospital rankings in your area, visit www.healthinsight.org and select National Hospital Rankings.
