Ceramics Club Provides
Creative Outlet For Sun City Residents
Sun City Anthem residents
discover hidden talent and creativity when they join the Ceramics
Club where members learn, socialize, and make imaginative items
for home decoration or gift giving. President Carolyn Newman shows
off the clubs three kilns and immaculate craft shop, located in
Anthem Center. Each person buys greenware, then we prepare,
paint and glaze the piece, Newman said. Our treasurer, Donna
Lakers, is a certified instructor, and there are always plenty of
skilled members to help new comers.
The club has become very popular
with Sun City residents. Ceramics is a relaxing activity,
Newman said. It provides a real sense of accomplishment when you
make a piece of art. Most members make items to compliment their
home decor. Now 60 members strong, the Ceramics Club has even
donated their wares to benefit charity. We raised $750 for the
Toys for Tots drive during the holidays by selling finished
ceramics at a craft fair, said Susan Cleeton, outgoing club
president.
Ceramics Club member Edith Cohen
said ceramics is a new interest, but that she is now addicted to
it. She and her husband Donald moved to Southern Nevada from the
Chicago area to escape the cold winter weather. We bought the
Liberty model and just love it. It has everything we need.
The Liberty is part of Del
Webbs Premier series with two bedrooms, den, Nevada room,
oversized living room, covered patio and two-car garage and golf
cart storage area, with 2,179 livable square feet. A detached
optional suite can be used as a guest bedroom, office or hobby
room.
Sun Citys Anthem Center is one
of the largest recreational facilities Del Webb has ever built at
approximately 75,000 square feet. In addition to the many clubs
and activities, it offers fitness, social and recreational
opportunities for residents as well as Trumpets Restaurant and
Lounge, which is open to the public.
Sun City Anthem offers 19 models,
ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the
communitys Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the low
$140,000s to more than $500,000.
To visit the Model Village, take
Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. Models are
open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
